Conceptual Motivation

Published by bertrum at 12:39 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

I’m not sure if it’s just the fact that I’m adjusting to the “city-life,” but everywhere I go in this metropolitan masterpiece, my osmatic senses are constantly bothered by the unfortunate aroma and result of a terrified skunk…totally unrelated, just thought I would share my frustration :)  Moving on, In a time such as this for me (the off-season, incase you were unaware), it’s often difficult to find motivation or inspiration when it comes to wakeskating or wakeboarding. During the summer, you ride everyday, and no matter what the outcome or result of that day’s session of shrediquette, you can always build upon it. Whether you just stomped that banger you’ve been working on for what seems like an eternity (a rare occasion in my case), or you just slashed the wake all day long, something can be taken from every conference with the water. But now there’s nothing to build upon!

Well my fellow biped’s, there’s a wee, tiny bit of hope. In case the title didn’t raise an eye-brow or two, the wonderful art form that is the video has been the major stimulus in the absence of water dancing. Now a days, i often find myself watching endless hours of these videos, sometimes repeating many of them because they’re so damn good. Ok go ahead, judge me……you’re probably thinking I’m some crazy guy who needs an intervention. Well, while that’s not far from the truth, I just find everything in these videos amazing! Seriously, you can’t say you’ve ever watched a skate, snow, or wake team video and not been truly amazed and marveled by some of the stuff you just witnessed.

I remember when I first got into skateboarding and my good friend just bought the shorty’s skate team video “guilty.” To me, this video was absolutely awesome, and made me want to go out and glide the concrete 24/7. Keep in mind, this is when I knew the square-root of F@!% all about skateboarding. Since the moment I saw the shorty’s team all in the back of police van, contemplating escape (Guilty introduction for you newbs), the idea of exposing raw-talent and skill through video seemed genius to me, and like I said before, has provided for some bad-ass motivational power for me.

Bringing us back to the present, there’s no board-sport video that you’ll have to force me to watch. The true aesthetic behind these videos is the ability to go into your viewing experience with a completely open-mind, and not know what to expect. The videos being made today are absolutely unbelievable. The cinematography, editing, directing, and riding in general is so overwhelming, it forces one to ask themself where could it possibly go from here?

My newly established all-time favorite video would have to be Oakley’s wake team video, Push Process. Danny Hampson’s part in that captivating masterpiece makes me want to cry. If there’s anyone reading this, let me know if you have any personal favorites that stand out in your mind…..

I’ll leave you with this beauty section of an Oakley motion picture Our Life.

Hearts free and feet parallel, brothers.
